Inter-Agency Commission Coordinating Syrian-Armenians’ Issues holds subsequent session

On August 27, the Inter-Agency Commission Coordinating Syrian-Armenians’ Issues held its subsequent session at the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

Acting Director of the AGBU Representation in Armenia Hovik Eordekyan presented the completed activities and the upcoming programs.

The organization has carried out its humanitarian mission in Syria, Lebanon and Armenia and has helped raise 600,000 dollars for the Syrian-Armenian Relief Fund. The AGBU has also provided assistance to 300 families in Aleppo and 500 families in Damascus. The AGBU has also covered expenses for medical assistance, medicine and housing in Kamishli and Latakia.

The RA Minister of Diaspora expressed gratitude and particularly mentioned: “Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, the Armenian General Benevolent Union has stood by our side and has already carried out several large-scale programs. It has also participated in the reimbursement of tuitions for Syrian-Armenian students in Armenia.”

President of Mission Armenia benevolent non-governmental organization Hripsime Kirakosyan delivered a report on the 2012-14 Programs for Support to Syrian-Armenians.

The completed activities and upcoming programs of Aleppo Compatriotic Benevolent Organization were presented by the organization’s president Ani Balekhian.

Summing up, Hranush Hakobyan expressed gratitude to the speakers and the representatives of the government agencies and NGOs for their efforts and mentioned that the Syrian-Armenians’ major issues of concern have been solved through combined efforts.

The participants of the session took note of and approved the proposal of the AGBU and the Aleppo NGO to make more efforts for implementation of the New Aleppo housing project.
