“We Will Go to the End”: Aramayis Gevorgyan, Volunteer in All Artsakh Wars and Devoted Patriot

Aramayis Gevorgyan participated in all Artsakh wars. When Azerbaijan launched a large-scale war against Artsakh on September 27, 2020, Aramayis, despite his age, volunteered again. His wife opposed it this time, but nothing and no one could stop him.

His wife, Gohar Harutyunyan, says in the framework of Iravaban.net‘s “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War” series that her husband was devoted to his homeland and knew every corner, stone, and bush in Artsakh.

“He participated in the battles, always went to Artsakh. On September 27, he was in Aragats when his friends from Artsakh called and told him that war had broken out. He said, ‘I’m coming, I’m with you.’ My younger son had received a draft notice, and he went too. My husband also went. I said, ‘You’re leaving us to go?’ He replied, ‘Well, who should go? I will go in place of everyone,'” Mrs. Gohar recalls her husband’s words.

His older son, Sargis Gevorgyan, recounts that his father left for Artsakh on September 28 with friends in the “Amberd” detachment.

“His departures for war had already become routine for us, but this last time I didn’t want to let him go. He last spoke with us on October 12. He talked with my eldest son and said, ‘Stay well.’ He was devoted to his homeland. During our final conversations, I would say, ‘You should come back,’ as we saw what was happening on television. He said, ‘There is no coming back, we’re going all the way,'” his wife recalls.

They couldn’t find Aramayis’s body for 6 months, then it was confirmed through DNA testing.
