Dr. Vahe Gharibyan, a physician and pharmacist, was killed in September 2020 during the war unleashed by Azerbaijan. Vahe had been serving in the Agarak military unit since 2018 and was transferred to Jrakan on September 28.
“He was my only son after four daughters. He had a wonderful childhood. He was an exceptional child, very intelligent. I cannot recall a single instance when I had to reprimand him. He never committed a wrong deed in his life – he was inherently radiant. He was involved in sports and was strong both mentally and physically. After his studies, he started working. Although he was a pharmacist, he had extensive knowledge of Armenian history. His patriotism was evident from an early age. He matured and developed into a man very early. He married, created a wonderful family, had a child, but they didn’t get to enjoy life together,” recounts his mother.
According to Nvard Gharibyan, her son served with great dedication. His wife and child had been staying with her.
“On September 27, as soon as the war began, he sent his wife and child here. He knew he would have to go to war but didn’t tell us. He didn’t want us to know. My Vahe’s death is very mysterious – there are many who are culpable, but they remain silent. If even two people’s stories matched, we might have believed that version of events. They give us fragmentary information; even his commander has told several different versions of the story, each time differently. We are parents – we want to know the circumstances of our child’s death. That’s why we think the commander abandoned him without help. Everyone was precious to us, each one was a light in their home, but they should have protected that one doctor like the apple of their eye. When he was wounded, they got into their vehicles and fled while my child was bleeding out. Years have passed, but we cannot find peace, we cannot find our place,” relates Mrs. Nvard.
