“Debate Master” Vahe Mkrtchyan fell at the highest position in Artsakh

Hasmik Muradyan, the mother of Vahe Mkrtchyan who was immortalized in the 44-day war of 2020, told Iravaban.net as part of the “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War” series that her son was so intelligent that he started school at the age of 5. The school principal didn’t want to admit him, but after submitting an application to the regional administration and testing Vahe’s knowledge, the principal “surrendered.”

“He started writing novellas and prose works from the 7th grade. He worked on novellas for several years, but we haven’t published them yet, they’re incomplete, we don’t know whether we should finish them or leave them as they are, what’s right. He wrote and implemented numerous programs with students. He loved his village very much and organized Saturday cleanups to keep the village clean. He was a leader,” his mother recounted.

According to her, she once attended her son’s debate club and got to know Vahe from a different perspective; he was called the “Debate Master.”

“He was thirsty for knowledge, even education in Armenia wasn’t enough for him. He compared it with the American University education and regretted not being admitted to that university. He wanted more, but didn’t get it,” said Mrs. Hasmik.

Vahe’s last phone call was on September 29, when he spoke with his father and never called again.
