“I want to serve in Artsakh.” After living in Russia for 15 years, Seryozha had decided he must live in Armenia

After living abroad for many years, Seryozha had made a clear decision—he must serve and pay his debt to the homeland. He had returned to Armenia with his parents and sister. They were living in a rented place. He even managed to attend college for a few months before being drafted into the Armenian army.

Within the framework of Iravaban.net’s “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War,” series, his mother, Hasmik Abrahamyan, told us that her son was very intelligent, had graduated with excellence, and never had problems with his studies.

“He said on his own initiative: ‘I want to serve in Artsakh.’ He loved Armenia very much. Within a few months, he made friends. He would say: ‘We’re not going back to Russia anymore. When I return from the army, I’ll study here and work.’ He would say: ‘I’ll work and buy you a house.’ Now we’re living in the house created at the cost of his life. He was very satisfied, never complained about his service. He was a sniper. When we would ask questions, he would say: ‘Don’t ask other questions,'” the mother recounts.

Seryozha loved his service very much. He had told his parents that he had surprises for them. He had said that when he came on leave, he would definitely bring them. But the leave never came, and he never brought the promised surprise. The mother only assumes that he had probably received commendations for good service.

Seryozha was killed on September 27. His last call was on September 25. He spoke for a very long time and said not to call him either.

“They said they remained in position, no one saw them. In December, the parents went to Karabagh. Thanks to search operations, on December 15, they found 7 people in the same position. They brought them down. It was only confirmed in February. At first, I was taking it very hard that I hadn’t seen him, but now this gives me strength—to wait for him,” the mother recounts.

In a very poor psychological state, Mrs. Hasmik consulted a doctor with hopes of having another child. They said it wasn’t possible. Then one day she learned she was pregnant. She announced the news to her elder daughter, who began to cry, thinking they would take her brother to the army again. The mother reassured the girl. Serine was born—hero Seryozha’s sister.
