Whenever he called, his first words were: Mom, don’t you know that you are my sunray? Everything went dark: Yuri Hunanov died in 2022 in Vardenis
On 13 September, 2022, the enemy unleashed military operations in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, opening fire in the direction of Vardenis: Yuri Hunanov defended one of the positions there.
He was drafted into the army on 16 July, 2021. He served in Mughni for six months, then was transferred to Vardenis.
“He served in Vardenis for one year and two months. He never complained. Not any complaint ever. He did not give us any trouble. I never knew that he was at the positions. He used to say, “Mom, it’s better not to tell mom thing that you have to tell mom and mom gets worried.” Whenever he called, his first words were: Mom, don’t you know that you are my sunray? Everything went dark,” Yuri’s mother, Zinaida Hunanova, tells in the framework of “Immortal Victims of the War” series of Iravaban.net.
According to her, she always said that her son should serve and taught him to love his homeland: “But not, send him and not welcome him.”
Mrs. Zinaida remembers how she was informed that the enemy has unleashed another provocation. They called her at night and informed that the situation at the border is tense. “Dear Zin, how is the child?” was heard from the other side of the phone.

– Vardenis was attacked.
“My husband quickly put on the clothes to go, and see what happened. We too, were making call after call, but it was unreachable. We didn’t even know… 20 days later. My husband was on the roads of Vardenis for exactly 20 days. We didn’t come home until we found Yuri. 20 days later they called and said that the DNA matched. I would never have imagined that such a boy would have such a short life,” Yuri’s mother says.
After a long silence, she added: “It is very difficult to live, if you can call it living. A longing that knows no bounds.”
And he did not spare his life for the sake of the motherland. Yuri Hunanov died on 13 September, 2022.
