Penalties for violating sanitary and epidemic rules are defined not only by the Code of Administrative Offenses, but also by the Criminal Code.
Article 277 of the Criminal Code provides:․
- Breach of sanitation and epidemic regulations which negligently caused mass diseases or poisoning of humans, is punished with a fine in the amount of up to 200 minimal salaries, or correctional labor for up to 2 years, or with imprisonment for the term of up to 3 years, or with deprivation of the right to hold certain posts or practice certain activities for up to 3 years.
- The same action which negligently caused heavy damage to health or human death, is punished with imprisonment for the term of up to 5 years.
The Code of Administrative Offenses also stipulates the penalties for violating the sanitary and epidemic rules and norms.

Violation of health, sanitary and hygienic and sanitary and epidemiologic regulations and regulations (except for spheres of safety of foodstuff, rules and regulations of preserving atmospheric air), hygienic standard rates, attracts imposing of penalty on citizens in the amount of tenfold to twentyfold, on officials – from fortyfold to the hundredfold amount of the established minimum payment of work.
The same act if it is made repeatedly or each subsequent case within one year after application of measures of administrative punishment, attracts imposing of penalty on citizens in the amount of twentyfold to thirtyfold, on officials – from hundredfold to the hundred-fiftyfold amount of the established minimum payment of work.
Article 43 of the same Code stipulates:
Violation of the health, sanitary and hygienic and sanitary and anti-epidemiological regulations and hygiene standards established on rail transport attracts imposing of penalty on citizens in the amount of tenfold to twentyfold, on officials – from fortyfold to the hundredfold amount of the established minimum payment of work.
Violation of the sanitary and hygienic and sanitary and anti-epidemiological rules and hygiene standards established on air transport attracts imposing of penalty on citizens in the amount up to fifteen fold, on officials – from fiftyfold to the hundredfold amount of the established minimum payment of work.
