On the 20th of February, the court hearing on the case of Hayk Aleksander Sargsyan, the nephew of the 3rd President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, is being held at the Shengavit residence of the Yerevan Court of First Instance. The hearing is presided over by Judge Anna Danibekyan.
Judge Anna Daniebakyan noted that the previous hearing had been postponed to find out information about witness Ashot Simonyan’s father, David Simonyan. Prosecutor Abgar Arakelyan noted that they had turned to the police to find out the matter, but there was no information about him at the moment and no contact could be made with him.
The prosecution stated that it was now advisable to publish the testimony of witness Ashot Simonyan, which was approved by the court as it was not possible to find out the witness’s address, notify him to appear before the court, or to interrogate by video. Prosecutor Abgar Arakelyan read the testimony.
His testimony stated that on 1 April, as usual, they celebrated the feast at the restaurant. While waiting for David Simonyan, a woman answered his call and said that David Simonyan was in the hospital. When they went to the hospital, the doctor said that the surgery was well done, and one of his son’s kidneys had been removed because it had exploded and could not be sewn, in addition a part of the spine was damaged. According to the testimony, after when the witness was leaving Davit Simonyan’s ward at the hospital he saw the Minister of Health, who was sent to the hospital on the instruction of the 3rd President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
“A few days after, when I went home, I accidentally met one of Davit’s friends and Arthur Gevodnyan, a resident of our building, near the elevator. I told him that I heard that the shooter was Aleksander Sargsyan, and he said that he didn’t shoot but the shooter was one of his sons under the influence of drugs. He also said his name, but I don’t remember which. Besides, he mentioned that it happened accidentally, the shooter said, “I will shoot, I will shoot,” and as a result of which he shot,” Ashot Simonyan’s testimony stated.
Hayk Sargsyan’s father, Aleksander Sargsyan, wished to meet with Ashot Sargsyan, which he agreed to when talking to his son.
According to Ashot Simonyan’s testimony, Hayk Sargsyan shot at his son, for which he was offered money.
It should be reminded according to the indictment, Hayk Sargsyan, on 1 April at around 4 pm in the room located on the ground floor of apartment 14 of building 11 in Tumanyan Street, Yerevan where he was registered, shot in Davit Simonyans abdomen from an illegally acquired and maintained pistol “SIGSAUER” with a purpose of intentional deprivation of life. However could not complete the crime due to circumstances beyond his will.
