Why did the Road Police set a new Camera close to Chekhov School on Baghramyan Avenue?

On 5 November the Road Police informed that from 17 November 2014 new cameras will be launched in Yerevan. One of them was set on Baghramyan Avenue, close to the School N55 after Chekhov. Iravaban.net tried to find out from the Road Police why the camera is being set not at the crossroad, but on the avenue.

The RA Road Police deputy head Armen Khachatryan informed that a large amount of traffic rule violations had been recorded in that area: at some times of the day cars make stops on the second traffic line hindering the traffic of other vehicles. “This is a serious obstacle, it paralyzes the traffic of the entire road area”, stated Mr. Khachatryan adding that based on this a new camera had been set in that area.

By the way, mainly the parents of the schoolchildren make stops in this area, the RA Road Police deputy head did not deny that fact. “These infringements mainly relate to the school hours – in the morning and in the afternoon. In some sense the morning situation can be understood, but in the afternoon they make stops of 5, 10, 15 minutes, and that period of time can paralyze the traffic of the entire street and create inconveniences for the others”.

To our question whether it will be right to make the road police officers` service at the area of the school stricter, warning or fining the drivers, Mr. Khachatryan answered: “Road police officers patrol there in the mornings, they have formed many reports, they have made warnings, but it is not possible to always have a road police officer at that area”.
