We Support the Establishment of Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan: US Assistant Secretary of State

We support the conclusion of a durable and dignified peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. James O’Brien, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, said in an online briefing for foreign journalists.

The American diplomat emphasized that they are very encouraged that Yerevan and Baku continue to have a robust agenda bilaterally and address the issues that remain between them.

“There are more to work through and to the extent we can be helpful, we are happy to support. We would like to see them both benefit from a peace arrangement and we will be working to that end in whatever way is most acceptable. This is another great opportunity for both governments to deliver more results for their people,” O’Brien said.

According to the American official, the agenda of reforms in Armenia is very impressive.

“Elections are expected in Azerbaijan, and I can say that the country wants to play a role in regional economic development. I think the peace treaty will contribute further to those plans. The US would like to discuss with both countries all the issues on the agenda, from concerns about some of the people in detention to bilateral issues, we will have a very full agenda moving forward, all with the goal of encouraging a lasting and dignified peace between the two countries.” O’Brien concluded.
