Don’t look among the living, Gagik is dead: Newly Recruited Gagik Avagyan fought for the Homeland for 38 Days

Gagik Avagyan was killed in the 44-day Artsakh war. His mother, Alina Avagyan, told within the ” Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War ” series of Iravaban.net that her son was very happy to go to the service.

“I cried, and he said, “Mom, why are you crying, those two years will pass so quickly you won’t feel it either. He never complained about anything, neither during the service nor during the war. On 27 September, he talked to his father and said that everything is fine, we are in the bunkers. We are all hiding, don’t be afraid. He spoke so cheerfully that we did not imagine that he was talking from there,” she says.

According to his father, Rafael Avagyan, his son was a servant for two months when the war began.

“His favorite word was: everything here is OK.” That’s all he said. We did not hear anything related to the war and we made sure that the new recruits are in the bunker,” he says.

The mother says that her son died on 4 November.

“There were 9-10 people, the commander said: go back, soon the help will come, they said: we will not leave you alone. And 1-2 people form them were saved. He was so fearless that I used to say that nothing will happen to him,” his mother says.

The parents had no contact with their son after 4 November. On 10 November, they were told that Gagik was killed. They managed to find their son’s body on 7 February.

“We spoke on the morning of 4 November, but we haven’t received any calls since then. I called using all numbers that there were, I called them all. In the end, I contacted a number, they said that he was injured. I went and found his sergeant, who had been there, had seen everything. He told me, “Don’t look among the living, Gagik is dead,” the father says.
