The special rapporteurs of the UN have called on Azerbaijan to immediately restore free and safe movement through the Lachin Corridor, RIA Novosti reports.
“Experts (UN-ed.) called on the authorities of Azerbaijan to immediately restore the free and safe movement of people, vehicles and goods moving in both directions through the Lachin Corridor, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of November 2020,” the statement of the Special Rapporteurs said, which the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) circulated.
They believe that the blockade of the past seven months has resulted in “the population facing acute shortages of basic food, medicine and hygiene products”.
“We call on the Government of Azerbaijan to fulfill its international obligations to respect and protect human rights, including the right to food, health, education and life. We also emphasize the importance of cooperation and dialogue between all parties involved in order to find a peaceful solution,” the statement said.
