“I am a great gift for you.” the height is not ours, Sarmen has gone

“Commander the height is ours, the height is ours, Sarmen has gone…” Days after the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh on 27 September, 2020, the Internet was flooded with the above words.

Sarmen Ayvazyan defended the 117th position of Varanda, which was occupied by the enemy, at the cost of his life.

“Perhaps a week had passed since the burial, I read on Facebook, then we called the local command, they said Sarmen threw a grenade into the trenches and there he was shot. Later, his friends told that,” Sarmen’s father, Samvel Ayvazyan says.

Sarmen was drafted into the army on 18 December, 2019, and served in Hadrut region.

The father tells that he also took part in the war.

“As a MOB, I was taken to Vayk positions, and then on 4 October, they were taken to Jrakan. When Sarmen learned this, he said, “Why have they brought you here, I’m here,” the father says.

The class where Sarmen Ayvazyan studied at Malishka secondary school No. 1 in Vayots Dzor marz was named after him. That was Sarmen’s last request to his teacher, Tatevik Hovsepyan.

“He said: promise that if something happens to me, you will name our class after me. We organized an event and Sarmen’s class was solemnly opened, modest and beautiful like him,” the teacher notes.

Sarmen Samveli Ayvazyan was born on 1 October, 2001. He fell in the battles for the defense of the homeland on 5 October, 2020.
