Serdar Kılıç to be appointed Special Representative of Turkey for normalization of relations with Armenia: Çavuşoğlu

Former Turkish Ambassador to the United States Serdar Kılıç will be appointed Special Representative of the Republic for normalization of relations with Armenia. The statement came from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt  Çavuşoğlu during a visit to the UAE on Wednesday.  TASS News Agency reported.

“In the framework of normalization of relations with Armenia, we will appoint our special envoy former Ambassador of Turky to the United States Serdar Kılıç,” he said on TRT.

It should be noted that the official representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow welcomes the fact that the parties are in dialogue, discussing the normalization of relations, and the appointment of representatives from both sides is logical, “reasonable”. “Russia is ready to support this process in every way.”

Notably on 13 December, Mevlüt  Cavusoglu stated that Turkey  and Armenia can appoint special representatives to normalize relations between the two countries. He also said that Ankara intends to open charter flights with Yerevan.

The RA MFA responded to his statement: “Armenia, as always before and now, is ready for the process of normalization of relations with Turkey without preconditions, which is registered in the program of the Armenian Government. In this regard, we positively assess the statement of the Turkish Foreign Minister on the appointment of a special representative for the normalization of relations; confirm that the Armenian side will appoint a special representative for this dialogue as well.”
