Hovhannes Khachatryan volunteered for the Artsakh war with his father and brother. His cousin, Aram Khachatryan , was a conscript serving in Mataghis.
Hovhannes lived with his family in Kovsakan (Zangelan). He also took part in the four-day war, when he was still a conscript.
“We fought in Jabrayil, we both had ordinary machine guns, we were together from the first day, we went to posts, I would not let them fire, I said I would shoot, you would refill the cartridges,” Gevorg Khacahatryan, the brother of Hovhannes Khachatryan who died in the Artsakh war told.
“There was no commander, there was nothing, there was no leader, and there was no map. We could not keep the post because we had nothing, we had to go somewhere else, we had to go through another place but we were given another order. About 25 of us out of 600 were left. I was looking for my brother but did not find him, I do not know where he was,” Gevorg said.
Hovhannes Khachatryan was born on 22 September, 1997, and died on 3 October, 2020.
