Police in Washington have arrested 68 people for rioting

Law enforcement authorities arrested 68 people in Washington because of the riots, the police chief Robert Kontin said at a press conference.

“TASS” news agency reported.

“68 people have been detained,” he said. Among those arrested are 60 men and 8 women. These are the arrests that took place on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Earlier it was noted that the protesters stormed the Capitol building in Washington, DC, US Congressman James Lankford said.

“They (the protesters) asked us to stay inside,” Lankford wrote on Twitter.

Trump supporters do not accept the defeat of the incumbent president. The congressmen were evacuated from the building, and Trump supporters entered the Senate hall.

A clash between supporters of incumbent President Donald Trump and police took place near the Capitol building. Police used tear gas and stun grenades. There are wounded. Supporters of Trump surrounded the Capitol. The mayor of Washington announced a curfew due to the riots.

In turn, Trump urged protesters to act peacefully and support the police.

During a speech in Georgia on the eve, Trump promised not to “give” the White House to Joe Biden. The American leader also announced plans to organize a “hell battle” for the presidency if the Democrats “occupy” the Senate-administration.

It should be reminded that according to the official data, Democrat Biden won the pre-election campaign. He received 306 votes, Trump – 232. The next head of state will swear in on 20 January.
