Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told why the Iranian peace plan was not given much attention in the process of resolving the conflict in Karabakh, stressing that the choice of the format remained with Azerbaijan and Armenia, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Iranian State TV and Radio.

“Now we need to think not about who, when did or didn’t manage to help the settlement. Let me emphasize again, the choice of the format was for Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was this, and nothing else, that determined the composition of the participants in the statement. There were no attempts to do this at the expense of Iran or at the expense of Turkey and could not be. Now it is important to think about how to bring to the end all the agreements reached and make the region of confrontation a region of coexistence, and best of all good-neighborliness and cooperation,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.

Lavrov stressed that Moscow was driven by the desire to end the bloodshed, and Armenia and Azerbaijan expressed their interest in doing this through the mediation of the Russian Federation.
