Petros Nver Asatryan, who sacrificed his life for his homeland, was born on August 1, 2001, in Mkhchyan village. He was the first grandchild on both maternal and paternal sides. His mother, Arusyak Asatryan, tells Iravaban.net in the “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War” series that her son’s birth was much anticipated.
The parents recall that their son was very sociable, lively, and outgoing. His father, Nver Asatryan, particularly emphasizes that Petros deeply loved and was very devoted to his younger brother. Petros had been counting the days until his military conscription, eagerly awaiting this event.
Before being drafted into the army, he often said that he would die and urged his mother not to be sad: “He would say, ‘Mom, if I die, don’t be sad, what’s the big deal? You will walk with your head held high if you know that I died in battle, I would be very happy for that.’ During the most intense days of the war, when we called, we didn’t notice anything, didn’t feel what was happening, he wouldn’t say anything,” the mother recounts.
On October 2nd, Petros’s father also volunteered and went to war but wasn’t with his son. He returned home on October 30th. They had no news from their son for several days, but they were assured that his company was in hiding. However, it later turned out that the interlocutors had misunderstood each other and were talking about an entirely different company.
“From that moment on, our peace was gone. Two days later, we parents went to Karabakh. We went through a lot. We asked the Russian peacekeeping force commander to allow us to search for our children in the forests. They allowed several parents. We were shouting our children’s names in the forests, thinking they were alive, they would hear our voices and come,” the father narrates.
On January 13, 2021, DNA confirmation was received. Petros Asatryan fell in the Hadrut region.
