Roskomnadzor blocked the social network Facebook (owned by Meta) in Russia. The department announced on 4 March, Izvestia reports.
“Since October 2020, 26 cases of discrimination against Russian media and information resources by Facebook have been recorded. In recent days, the social network has limited access to accounts: the Zvezda TV channel, the RIA Novosti news agency, Sputnik, Russia Today, the Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru information resources,” the statement says.
Roskomnadzor explained that the above restrictions are prohibited by Federal Law No. 272-FZ “On measures to influence persons involved in violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms, the rights and freedoms of citizens of the Russian Federation.” In addition, Facebook’s actions are contrary to the key principles of the free flow of information and unhindered access for Russian users to Russian media on foreign Internet platforms.
On 2 March, the Director of the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers, Vladimir Zykov, expressed the opinion that propaganda information is actively disseminated on the Facebook (Meta) social network, the site is fully involved in the information war, so it will most likely not work in Russia.
It should be reminded that in the early morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a message announcing the decision to launch a special military operation in Donbas.
“Circumstances require us to take decisive and immediate action. The Donbass People’s Republics have appealed to Russia. I have decided to launch a special military operation in this regard,” Putin said in a televised address to Russian citizens.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that from 5:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. Yerevan time) on Thursday, the Russian Armed Forces carried out intensive attacks on Ukrainian military facilities and airports.
The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
