The last word of the defendant may become a slogan of a famous company

Convicted murderer Gary Gilmore’s final words before being put to death on January 17, 1977, by a volunteer firing squad were “Let’s do it!” This phrase inspired famous company NIKE and it become a slogan, changing “Let’s” to “Just”

According to Armenian legislation when the stage of judicial debates is over, the last word is given to the defendant. During the defendant’s last word it is not allowed to ask him questions. The court can not limit the defendant’s last word with a definite deadline.

The chairman is entitled to interrupt the defendant when the latter refers to obviously irrelevant issues.

If in the last word the defendant announces new circumstances essential for the case, the court resumes the court trial.
