The Veteran Prosecutors’ Union has a new President. At the meeting held in the Building of the Writers’ Union of Armenia, the veteran prosecutors (who no longer work in the prosecution system) unanimously elected the only candidate Edward Babayan the President of the organization. Two Vice Presidents were elected as well. Further the meeting unanimously elected the Board comprised of 10 members and the Control Committee including 3 members.
Among the prominent figures who attended the meeting were the former head of the Special Investigation Service Andranik Mirzoyan, Aram Amirzadyan, Zhirayr Kharatyan and others.
We understood from the speeches that the veterans were displeased with the fact that the meeting was organized in the House of the Writers’ Union, and not at “their home” in the Prosecutor’s Office
In reply to Iravaban.net’s question why the meeting was organized in the House of the Writers’ Union, and whether the former meetings had been held in the General Prosecutor’s Office, the newly elected President Edward Babayan said:
“I am not aware of the former meetings, though I was a member of the Union, but I did not partke in the meetings. Well, our Union was probably not very viable or did not have financial capacity to hire a space. The former management told they had asked the Prosecutution, but with no result. So we hired a hall in the Writers’ Union.”
Edward Babayan hoped that the General Prosecutor’s Office, as well as other structures and businessmen would support their organization and will provide at least one room. “There are people in our organization with over 30 years experience in the prosecution and they have had a great contribution in the prosecution sphere. We need only one room; we do not need much.”
The Union will carry out advocacy of its members’ rights. They are ready to share experience, provide legal advice and unite over 300 retired prosecutors.
