Investigation Committee will be more independent. former investigator

Investigation Committee is composed of professional experts, states Rafik Safaryan who has more than 20 years of experience in the investigation system and who currently works at Public Defender`s Office in Yerevan.

On 12 September RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on appointing 4 deputies to the Investigation Committee President. According to that decree Arthur Ghambaryan (doctor of law, Head of Legal provision department of the RA Prosecutor-General`s Office), Aram Tamazyan (former deputy of the RA Prosecutor General), Vahagn Harutyunyan (will also head the department of particularly important case investigation) and Armen Harutyunyan (Head of RA Investigative Service) were appointed to these positions.

“The establishment of the Investigation Committee was on time, as several years ago, during the Soviet rule, there was a constant fight for the investigation apparatus be independent from the Prosecutor`s Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs, etc.. It seems that this is the exact time, when it`s independent and a separate body”, says Mr. Safaryan adding that the Investigation system will be more independent in this way. “Decisions will be properly made and the body won`t be restricted in the implementation of its competences”, former investigator concluded.
