Mikael Babakhanyan was killed in the 44-Day War unleashed by Azerbaijan in 2020. The third son of the family was born on 17 December, 1997. According to the description of his mother, Laura Gevorgyan, he was a very patriotic and hardworking young man.
Mikael served in 2016-2018.
“He went to the army and served with honor. He did not complain even once. There were rumors about our army that they were hungry, thirsty or naked and without panties. Nothing like that happened. He served happily, carefree and fulfilled his duties as a sergeant,” Mikael’s mother said.
Mikael left on 29 September to participate in the war for the homeland.
The mother says that before the war, her son dreamed twice that the war would start. When he heard the news, he rushed to the battlefield. Mikael was not left alone. His elder brother, Sargis joined him. They had decided in advance that they should go together.
“On 29 September, they received a call informing that they had to go to war. It was late; they quickly had a bath and said, “Mom, we have to go right now.” They went…. I kissed both of them, Mikael went to the car, and then turned back, looked at me again, I said: ‘Come on, Mick, let me kiss you one more’. He said goodbye to me, I didn’t understand. They were in Karvachar artillery. They were under heavy shelling. They fought for 13 days. They did not say where they were. Sargis said, “Mom, we thought that stay alive one more day at least, because they were under terrible shelling,” Mrs. Laura said.
The brothers were in the same position, but far from each other. On 13 October, Mikael went to his elder brother. His brother prepared food for him and fed him, then they said goodbye to each other, but after a short while Mikael returned and at that very moment a projectile hit.
“It turned out that his coming back was fatal. The distance between the two brothers was very short. Mikael shpuld have been half a meter further,” his mother said.
Mrs. Laura did not know that the younger son was killed: she only new that Sargis was wounded. She went to the hospital, to her son. She said that he was in a very serious condition and he constantly asked about his brother. The mother also said that maybe there is no connection, that’s why he does not answer.
The boys’ father learned from the TV that his son was killed.
