Azerbaijani parliament proposed calling the country North Azerbaijan

“Recently, the President of Azerbaijan condemned Iran’s hostile policy towards Azerbaijan. After that, the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan put the figure of an iron fist on the flag of Iran and shared this photo on the social network.” Deputy Gudrat Hasanguliyev said this at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis, the parliamentary correspondent of Minval reports.

He stressed that the steps taken towards state building in Azerbaijan make it necessary for us to adopt a new Constitution: “The first step should be to change the name of Azerbaijan. The country should be called Northern Azerbaijan. Also, as in the definitions of other divided peoples, the words North and South are present. I think this will be an incentive for southern Azerbaijanis as well.”

It should be noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have worsened recently. Azerbaijan and Turkey refer to the provinces inhabited by Turkic-speaking people of Iran as “South Azerbaijan”, but until recently Azerbaijan avoided discussing the issue.

According to their calculations, 35-40 million Azari live in Iran today.

Azaris are an ethnic group in Iran, which is the main population of historical Atrpatakan.

Recently, in Iran, Azerbaijan is often unofficially referred to as Iran’s “Northern Azerbaijan” province, and recently Iranian diplomat Abolfazl Zohrevand spoke about Armenia and Armenians being Iran’s allies, while Azerbaijan is a cancer and a threat to Iran’s civil territory, which has led to severe anxiety among the dictator of Baku and the Erdoğan  regime and hysterical anti-Iranian reactions in the media.”
