The first case of infection with the “Omicron” coronavirus strain has been confirmed in Japan, Kyodo reports, citing government sources.
According to the agency, the infection was found in a man who had returned from Namibia. The coronavirus test conducted by the Japanese at the airport gave a positive result.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously classified the COVID-19 variant found in South Africa as a cause for concern, naming it by the Greek letter “Omicron”.
