The World Health Organization has called the possibility of further spread of the “Omicron” strain at the global level.
“Depending on the characteristics, in the event of another large-scale outbreak of COVID-19, the existence of ‘Omicron’ could lead to serious consequences,” the organization said in a statement.
At the same time, the document states that the doctors have not yet registered a case of death related to the “Omicron” strain.
The WHO added that most tests were able to detect a new version of SARS-CoV-2, and that existing vaccines could protect against serious illness and death.
