Margar Melkonyan, who died in the Artsakh war, was drafted into the army on 13 January, 2020. He served in Lusakert for 3 months, then served in Gyumri and moved to Artsakh with the rank of sergeant. He was the commander of an artillery reconnaissance detachment.
“He always said he had to go to the army, and on the day he was drafted into the army he was very happy that he was leaving,” his cousin Martun Ghazaryan said.
“One day he called me, and very sadly said that they wanted to confer on him the rank of lieutenant, I said that we do not need any rank, he answered, you do not understand, all my officers are dead,” his mother Zaruhi Martirosyan said.
According to his brother, seeing Margar’s knowledge, he was offered the rank of lieutenant. “Margar, appreciating the seriousness of the moment, accepted it, realizing how important it was, not only for himself, but also for his friends.”
