The Kremlin is watching the situation in Armenia with alarm , but considers what is happening as an internal affair of the country, which is an important and close ally of the Russian Federation in the Caucasus, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters. RIA Novosti reported.
“We are watching with concern the development of the situation in Armenia. We consider it an exclusively internal affair of Armenia – our very important and close ally in the Caucasus,” Peskov said, commenting on what is happening in this country.
Earlier, the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, headed by Onik Gasparyan, demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assessed the statement as an attempt at a military coup. He invites his supporters to the Republic Square to talk to them.
He noted that yesterday and today he made decisions to dismiss both the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and the Chief, Onik Gasparyan, which was followed by the statement of the General Staff.
