Hovhannes Marukyan, who died in the Artsakh war, was drafted to the army on 2 July, 2019.

“When we were talking, his voice was sad, I could feel it, but he kept himself tight so that we would not feel it, he said, ‘I will come back, mother, I will come,'” his mother, Liana Mejlumyan says.

“During the days of the war, when we learned that Hovhannes had been transferred to Shushi, we were all so happy, we said, Shushi is an impregnable fortress; it is in such a position that it will be safe, but on the 5th day of the month I learned that there were battles there. I called Hovhannes and he shouted in a triumphant voice, “We will not give Shushi to anyone else,” Varduhi Marukyan, the aunt of the dead soldier said.

Hovhannes Marukyan was born on 29 July, 2001, and died on 7 November, 2020.
