It is known who will be the next Prosecutor General

According to our information, Deputy Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan will be appointed Prosecutor General of the RA. Yesterday he met with the President of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan. Today, he shall have meetings the members of NA factions.

It is anticipated to discuss the appointment of Arthur Davtyan in the upcoming four day session of the National Assembly.

Article 103 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia provides: “The Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia shall be a uniform system, headed by the Prosecutor General. The Prosecutor General shall be appointed by the National Assembly upon the recommendation of the President of the Republic for a term of six years. The same person may not be appointed as Prosecutor General for more than two consecutive terms.” Article 36 of the RA Law on the Prosecutor’s Office.

After Gevorg Kostanyan’s resignation, Artur Davatyan was appointed Acting Prosecutor General on 4 August 2016, and was relieved from the position on the same day. When appointing him to this position, the provision of the RA Law on the Prosecutor’s Office “in case of resignation, the Prosecutor General shall be temporarily substituted by the eldest Deputy Prosecutor General.”
