Russia was not elected a Member of the UN Human Rights Council

As a result of the elections in the UN General Assembly, Russia was not elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council. RIA Novosti reported.

It is noted that Albania and Bulgaria had applied for membership as well. These countries became members of the UN Human Rights Council with 123 and 160 votes, respectively.

Russia received 83 votes for the membership of the UN Human Rights Council, whereas 97 votes were needed.
