CSTO calls on Baku and Yerevan to cease fire immediately on border

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has serious concern over the escalation of tensions on Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

This is mentioned in the comment of CSTO Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov, RIA Novosti reports.

“The CSTO Secretariat expresses serious concern over the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border that arose on July 12 after an armed clash between the units of the armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the use of heavy weapons, as a result of which there are killed and wounded “, the comment says.

The current situation does not contribute to normalizing the situation on the border of two neighboring states, one of which – the Republic of Armenia – is a CSTO member state, and indicates a violation of the ceasefire reached at the level of the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the CSTO emphasized.

The military-political bloc is calling on the parties “to immediately restore the ceasefire in the CSTO responsibility zone.”

Notably, on 12 July, at around 12:30 pm, the servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, for unknown reasons, tried to cross the RA state border in the direction of Tavush in a UAZ car.

The Azerbaijani side continued shelling on 13 July.

Azerbaijani side reports war losses ․ Information about the death of 4 servicemen was spread by the Azerbaijani media. Today, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Kerim Veliyev stated that Major General of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Polad Hashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev were killed in the direction of Tovuz.
