EuroNest: “Armenia cedes Positions in European Integration Issues”

Before 2013, Armenia was one of the leading countries among the 6 Eastern Partnership member states that was meeting the obligations, which the country had undertaken under the agreements with the EU. However, on 3 September, 2013, when Armenia chose the EEC and refused to sign the European Union Association Agreement, it cedes the positions and appeared in the 4th place.

Hovsep Khurshudyan, member of “Heritage” Party said this at the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan. He also touched upon the Karabakh issue, noting that the conflict continued to be the primary obstacle for ensuring stability. Mr. Khurshudyan suggested the Eastern Partnership member states to consider the recognition of independence of Nagorno Karabakh as an option for solution of the problem.

He also spoke of the civil society institutions that work in Nagorno Karabakh, noting that they were totally isolated from the world and did not even have opportunity to participate in such Forums.

Political scientists Stepan Grigoryan asked the partners from Western countries and EU members to speak about the success stories, even if they were small successes. According to him the Armenian society is interested in the results mainly. And when they look at the Ukraine or Georgia they see that in case of revolutions and other risky steps they suffered territorial losses.

Representatives of Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova also made speeches.
