Ara Zakaryan, the defender of freedom fighter Volodya Avetisyan’s rights said in the interview with Iravaban.net that they had already exhausted all local remedies in the Republic of Armenia and it was time to apply to the European Court of Human Rights. He added that the defense will certainly do this.
Notably, on 17 June 2014, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Arabkir and Kanaker Zeytun Administrative Districts had sentenced Volodya Avetisyan to 6 years in prison. The defense had filed appeals in the court of Appeals and the Cassation Court of the RA. However both complaints were denied.
In this regard Ara Zakaryan said, “The Cassation Court has once again shown that it does not do justice but unfortunately it represents the interests of the authorities.”
