The Draft NGO Law contains a Number of Reforms: Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia

The Draft NGO Law includes a number of reforms as well as shortcomings. Traian Hristea, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia said this today at the discussion of the Draft Law.

First of all it should be mentioned that the European Union is one of the key donors which aims to stir up the CSO activities in Armenia. Mr. Hristea emphasized the role of CSOs from the aspect of f alleviation of poverty and development of democracy in our country.

Commenting on the Draft, the Ambassador said, “The changes of the civil society organizations, political and legal environment and revised draft law have passed a rather long way. The current version of the draft contains a number of improvements, which contribute to CSOs’ development in the sphere of financial sustainability.”

Traian Hristea stressed that by this draft the financial viability of CSOs gains new solutions.At the same time Mr. Hristea added that the experts have outlined a number of gaps in the draft that need to be solved within the framework of discussions with representatives of CSOs.
