“Both in life and at work, men lie more,” Marieta Misakyan, investigator of Particularly Important Cases of the Investigative Committee, said, within the framework of “Investigator Presents” series of interviews of Iravaban.net, speaking about the nature of her work, difficulties, and the disappointments encountered during the professional career, etc.
In response to our question why Marietta chose the profession of an investigator and what difficulties she faced during her professional career, she answered that in 2012, when she graduated from high school, she had no idea that her childhood dream would come true, and in 2019 she would be appointed an investigator.
Speaking about the obstacles, Marietta recalled that these occurred from the first moment of appointment. “The work was new, I had to be able to get used to it, but with the help of my colleagues and superiors, I was able to overcome the initial difficulties.”
She also mentioned that her decision to become an investigator was taken with difficulty in her family, because there is a stereotype that the work of an investigator is not for a woman. “At the initial stage of getting a job, as well as during my studies, when I heard that this job is not for a woman, I took it seriously and tried to counter it by explaining that a job is a job regardless of gender. Now I listen to such conversations very calmly, because each person has his own point of view and there is no need to try to change it.”
The investigator added that the most dangerous thing in her work is contact with people, because “the more people there are, the more character and behavior occurs”. “You cannot even have an idea from communicating with a person, what kind of behavior, what kind of steps you can expect from the latter.”
To our question, do women or men lie more often, she answered that in her opinion, men lie more both in life and at work.
Speaking about the workload of the investigators, Marietta mentioned that there were cases when she left work very late, sometimes even at night.
When asked why there are more men in managerial positions and they sometimes earn more than women despite performing the same functions, our interlocutor answered that it is due to “men being the stronger sex.” She noticed that this discriminatory approach is decreasing in Armenia, on the assumption of the fact that currently women are being to b appointed to high-ranking positions in state bodies as well.
This initiative, implemented in cooperation with the RA Investigative Committee and the Iravaban.net website, aims to properly present to the public the main directions of the work carried out by the preliminary investigation body, to reflect on the peculiarities of pre-trial proceedings and other issues of public importance.
