Karen Asatryan was a serviceman of the Peacekeeping Unit of the RA Armed Forces. His wife, Narine Asatryan , told within the ” Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War ” series of Iravaban.net, that her husband participated in the Four-Day April War as well.
“After April, he considered at his service to be an obligation. During the 44-day war, he came on leave for a few days, I was persuading him not to go, he said, “It is impossible not to go. I have to go, we have to fight this battle, this is an order, and I have no right.” He was very serious about the service. He was secretive, I could feel that he was thinking that he might not come back, I felt that he was convincing me that everything would be fine, I was also sure that he would return. I did not think for even a second that this trouble would knock on my door. His responsibility was immense,” Narine noted.
According to her, her husband was in Kosovo and Afghanistan on a peacekeeping mission. The last one lasted longer due to the coronavirus.
“The last mission lasted eight months. I was used to living without him, I was alone for a lot of time, but his constant calls and letters did not leave me feeling that he is not by my side. Now this loneliness is unbearable. He gave me strength. He used to say: Nar, I’m with you, I’m standing behind you, don’t be upset. Now I don’t have that back. This is not a situation that we live in and have to live with. This simply survival,” she said.
Karen Asatryan fought in the Karvachar region of the occupied Artsakh Republic. He died on 3 November.
“He was my Dove of Peace. He was a very good husband, a very good father. We lived together supporting and backing each other. I said, who are you handing me over to now that you are going, he said, I will go and come back, this is simply a fight and we have to fight, and return,” Narine said.
