“Traffic Jam” in the Metro: Why are the Trains late?

People wait for 10 minutes or more to get on the train in Yerevan Metro stations. It is already difficult to enter the train from “Garegin Nzhdeh” station; some passengers are waiting for the next train. They complain that the trains arrive every 7-10 minutes, sometimes later.

In a conversation with Iravaban.net, Tatev Khachatryan, spokesperson of Yerevan Metro named after Karen Demirchyan, stated that they are aware of the problem.

“The metro trains are undergoing technical inspection. The trains that have passed the inspection are in order and are being operated for safe traffic. That is the reason why the interval of the arrival time of trains has increased. There is a technical problem, we are waiting for repairs, some parts need to be purchased,” Tatev Khachatryan said.

In addition to the existing technical problem, they note that the passenger flow has also significantly increased in recent days.

Let us remind that on 23 September, the Yerevan Metro reported that a technical breakdown of the train took place on the section from “Sasuntsi Davit” station to “Gortsaranai”. The front left wheel of the wagon was damaged and half derailed. Throughout the day, the rescuers worked with metro specialists to move the carriage onto the rails and ensure normal traffic.

On 24 September, the Metri was completely closed so that it was possible to carry out a technical inspection of the trains.

“We ask for the forgiveness of the passengers for the inconvenience caused.”
