Sasun Khachatryan will be appointed Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee

Sasun Khachatryan will be appointed Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee for a six-year term. The issue is included in the 16 September agenda of the Government.

According to another decision of the Government, Khachatryan will be relieved of the post of Head of the Special Investigation Service.

It should be reminded that in March the National Assembly in the second reading fully adopted the package of draft laws on the Anti-Corruption Committee submitted by the Government, which envisages the dissolution of the Special Investigation Service and the establishment of an Anti-Corruption Committee.

The package of drafts received 80 “for”, 38 “against” and 2 “abstained” votes at the NA sitting.

The draft package proposes the creation of a new investigative body, the Anti-Corruption Committee, whose main competence will be the organization and implementation of pre-trial criminal proceedings for alleged corruption crimes under his/her jurisdiction provided by the RA Criminal Procedure Code.

It was also decided to dissolve the Special Investigation Service.

Investigators of the Special Investigation Service will be temporarily appointed as investigators of the Anti-Corruption Committee until the competition for the employees of the Anti-Corruption Committee takes place and as a result they will be appointed to the position. 20 people will be appointed through this procedure.
