The elections of the Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates will be held on 12 September. The candidates registered in connection with the election are Gevorg Gyozalyan and Simon Babayan. Tamara Poghosyan has submitted a self-withdrawal application. A debate was organized today, on 8 September.
Gevorg Gyozalyan presented his program and answered the questions.
In particular, Simon Babayan told Gevorg Gyozalyan: “We suggest changing the code of conduct, for example, it is about expressing an opinion, insulting a person. Have you studied the judicial acts, have you seen how many decisions of the Board we have declared invalid? Is that number enough to come to such a conclusion?”
Gevorg Gyozalyan mentioned that his position is obvious.
“I accept, and respect judicial acts. I myself have been involved in defending the interests of a number of lawyers called to disciplinary liability. I can say that they obviously did not understand this, and I still think that the final judicial acts related to them are not fair. My hope in this regard is not the courts, but the Board of the Chamber of Advocates, because its word is more authoritative for me than the courts, because the Board of the Chamber of Advocates should be the body that can best interpret the norms of behavior,” he said.
The Chairman of the Chamber Ara Zohrabyan asked a question to the candidate for the Chairman of the CA Gevorg Gyozalyan. “It seems to me that when any lawyer participates in the election, to a certain extent he attributes the criteria of the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to the person he should elect. Let me say on my behalf, for example, I will mention 2 of those criteria: determination and strong will. You had created the “Advocates” group, then you left, you left the Facebook, then you came back, you were appointed the head of the center of the scientific-analytical system, after some time you came and said you are overloaded and left. Based on these facts, can we say that after being elected Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates, you will not deviate from your real line at the first opportunity? ”
Gevorg Gyozalyan said that he had not left as a result of difficulties.
“The conversation between us is not worth presenting in detail. I assure you that every decision I made was evidence based and it was a solution. Well, I can hardly convince you of that, you obviously have your preferred candidate, I think so,” he noted.
Responding, Ara Zohrabyan said that Gevorg Gyozalyan says that they came out against the government, in that connection they do not treat us well.
“After all, the Chamber depends on the government, and obeys its will, or the Chamber does not obey the government? And please tell me, have you had a meeting with the government representatives in the last 3 months, have you had a discussion or not, in particular with Nikol Pashinyan, deputies, ministers,” Ara Zohrabyan asked.
Gevorg Gyozalyan said that he had definitely not met the Prime Minister.
“I have not met Karen Andreasyan, Rustam Badasyan. Recently I met with MP Nikolay Baghdasaryan. “I do not even know a deputy minister,” Gevorg Gyozalyan said.
