The forcibly displaced Artsakh Armenians face a number of problems in Armenia: ALA member, lawyer

“Return to Kashatagh”, “De-occupation of Hadrut”, “De-occupation of Shushi”, “Return to Karvachar”, “Return to Dizak”, “Kumayri” Non-Governmental Organizations of Artsakh Armenians, “Harmony” Shushi women non-governmental organization and a number of other structures were and are established with the support of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association.

“Our compatriots, who were forcibly displaced as a result of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan, moved to Armenia from different regions of Artsakh. They lost property, real estate, relatives, and had problems with financial, psychological and social support, which have not been resolved yet. In order to provide systemic solutions to these problems, a number of non-governmental organizations have been established by the Armenians of Artsakh, and some non-governmental organizations are still in the process of establishment.” Lawyer Vardanush Kavalyan, a member of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, told Iravaban.net about this.

According to her, initially, the ALA was engaged in providing free legal assistance to people forcibly displaced from Artsakh, during which deeper socio-legal and political issues were raised.

“ALA has provided direct assistance in the legal registration phase of NGOs, and now they are in the incubation phase, where ALA supports the establishment of NGOs; the organizations go through training and in parallel set goal, objectives as well as strategy and programming stages,” Vardanush Kavalyan said.

According to the lawyer, the territorial integrity of Artsakh and the non-governmental organizations raise the issue of de-occupation of the occupied territories, as well as the legal-political issue of the return of the population.
