Davit’s last words were, I’m sorry mom: He was the only child, he promised to come home

“When he appeared next to you, he immediately brought life and laughter with him, it was impossible to see him without a smile,” says Tatevik Yeranyan, the aunt of Davit Khachatryan, who died in the Artsakh war.

David was drafted into the army on 2 July, 2019, he was a sniper.

The mother says that there was a lot of love in her son, he was friendly, and he loved to paint.

“Before the war started, he said, ‘We have chapels here, I have repaired some of them and left icons,'” his mother, Naira Khachatryan says.

After Davit’s death, the family members found in his pocket one of the icons he had painted, which he had taken from the chapel so that it would not remain at the enemy.

Davit fought for 35 days, he told his mother that we do not have an inch of land to give to these Turkish dogs.

“It was his dream to take me to Hadrut, he said, ‘I want you to come and see what a beautiful city Hadrut is, I will tell you how we kept it, what we did.’ It remained a dream, Davit has gone, there is no Hadrut, there is nothing,” the mother says.

The mother last spoke to the son on 31 October. When the shells fell on Davit’s comrades-in-arms, 8 people were wounded, he was able to send 6 friends to the hospital, he did not reach the hospital, he died of internal bleeding.

“He was my only child, I never said Dav to hide or do less, I always said do what you do, but remember that you have to come home, finally remember that I am waiting for you,” the mother says.

The doctor said that Davit’s last words were, “I’m sorry mom.”

Davit Khachatryan was born on 14 February, 2001. He died in the battles for the defense of the homeland on 31 October, 2020.
