Around three dozen representatives of intellectuals sent an open letter to Zhirayr Sefilyan asking him to urge his friends to put down their weapons and surrender to the law enforcement bodies. The open letter particularly reads:
“Dear Zhirayr,
We appeal to you, confident that you are appreciative of the intellectual’s speech, request and good advice. Today, your friends, who are our compatriots, have resorted to the extreme step of military attack, have taken hostages, killed a police colonel.
Given your prudence and patriotism, we are confident that with your wisdom and exhortation you are able to prevent this irresponsible and short-sighted situation and the further undesirable effects, urging your friends to lay down arms and surrender to law enforcement bodies.
We believe that the further wise and alert steps of you and your friends will be aimed at the national unity, peace and security.”
