We have mistrust in the courts; of course it is changing, but not significantly. Mnatasakan martirosyan, Judge of the Court of General jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan City says.
According to him we need to introduce the jurors institute to correct the situation, without fear of difficulties. “Of course there will be difficulties. Certainly, there will be people who will try to influence on the jurors. But such difficulties occurred in other countries, where the system was introduced, as well. Thus it is necessary o introduce this system without fear,” Mr. Martirosyan said in the conversation with us.
He said that this system had functioned in the soviet times as well, and there was a criteria of confidence towards the soviet court. “I have dealt with it, I have seen it and am aware of it. There was confidence. And it was due to the jurors’ institute.”
So, the judge believes that the public should not be isolate justice. “Just on the contrary. It should be. Bring the people and let them decide, and punish. The confidence towards the court shall increase significantly, in addition the mistrust shall be excluded,” concluded the judge.
