19-year-old Artur Gevorgyan was named after his uncle, Arthur Atoyan, who died for his homeland in the freedom fight for Artsakh. The soldier’s father told us how the elder Artur in 1994 went as a volunteer to the war and died as a hero. In 1997 he named his son after the hero uncle.
Artur lived and worked with his father in Russia. “He was a fashion designer, a smart and hardworking guy. He work even at nights.” Today at the funeral the father looking at his son’s feet took a deep breath and said, “These shoes are his design as well.”
“He worked for two years. As soon as he became 18 he returned to Armenia. He said ‘I shall serve for my homeland and then come back’,” told the soldier’s father, whose son was considered as missing since 2 April. When he learned that his son was missing he returned to Russia.
They say that on 31 March he call to relatives and said they were going to the positions. After the military operations triggered by Azerbaijan on the night of 2 April, there was no information about Artur.
He was serving in Jabrail. Relatives were scarcely informed about how he died,. Some of his friends have fallen as a heroes with him, others are standing at the border.
Friends told us that he was a good, peaceful and quiet person, “Our hero died protecting us; he did not think about his life.”
Artur has a sister. She is a student.
