According to the website Teletula.ru, the court of Uzlovsky District in Russia granted the petition of the preliminary investigation body on taking the driver of the bus that got into an accident in Tula into custody for a 2-month period.
On the day of the accident a criminal case was initiated. The driver was charged with “violation of road traffic rules that caused the death of 2 and more people.” In the corresponding article of the RF Criminal Code, imprisonment for up to 7 years is specified as a punishment for such a deed.
The preliminary investigation body justified its petition using the fact that bus driver Garnik Harutyunyan is a citizen of another country and can avoid preliminary investigation. And the suspect asked the court not to take him into custody as he had not been able to help the injured passengers.
His advocate told the court that the preliminary investigation body did not have any evidence proving that Garnik Harutyunyan could avoid preliminary investigation, and there are only speculations on this matter. Nevertheless, the court granted the petition.
By the way, as we can see in the video, Garnik Harutyunyan filed a motion demanding that the media be forbidden to film him but the court rejected the motion.
