Why was Disciplinary Sanction Severe Reprimand applied against Two Advocates? Karen Mezhlumyan clarifies

Last week the Board of the RA Chamber of Advocates applied a disciplinary sanction severe reprimand against advocates Yervand Varosyan and Tigran Khurshudyan. A disciplinary penalty to participate in deontology (professional ethics) course on their own account was established. A disciplinary proceeding was initiated.

Karen Mezhlumyan, a member of Board of the RA Chamber of Advocates in the interview with Iravaban.net said that both advocates actually violated the advocate’s code of conduct. The Board of the Chamber received the case and after its examination found that the violations had actually taken place and thus established adequate penalties: severe reprimand and a penalty to attend the mandatory deontology (professional ethics) course on their own account.

According to the information, which was circulated in the social network, the violation was recorded at the regular meeting of the CA Board on 27 May. According to the information as a result of a quarrel, advocate Tigran Khachatryan had thrown a plastic bottle towards advocate Lusine Sahakyan. Yervand Varosyan intervened to protect the colleague and the incident turned into scuffle.

Karen Mezhlumyan confirmed that an incident had taken place at the Board Meeting on 27 May, but denied the incident with the bottle.

There were different statements of the advocates after the decision of the Board. Specifically advocate Hayk Alumyan wrote in ‘Facebook.com” Social network that after such decision “The Board turned into not a credible body, which future decisions will cause neither respect nor desire to follow them.”

Karen Mezhlumyan said that such statements have no factual basis.

Notably, Yervand Varosyan’s representatives are going to appeal the decision at court.
