Article 7 of the RA Law Police Service provide that the ranks of the police are conferred personally and posthumously.

For police ranks the following terms of a period of service in police ranks are stipulated:

1.    Junior ranks of Police:

•    Police Junior Sergeant, 1 year,

•    Police Sergeant, 2 years,

•    Police Senior Sergeant, 3 years,

•    Police Sergeant Major, 3 years,

•    Police Warrant Officer, 4 years.

The term of a period of service in a rank of the senior Warrant Officer of the Police is not stipulated.

2.    Mid-ranks of Police:

•    Police Junior Lieutenant, 1 year,

•    Police Lieutenant, 2 years,

•    Police Senior Lieutenant, 3 years,

•    Police Captain, 3 years,

•    Police Major, 4 year.

For service as a Police Colonel and for highest rank officers of Police the terms are not stipulated.
