The Father of a Girl murdered 10 years ago threatens the Advocate: the Reason is the European Court’s Judgment

10 years ago brutally murdered 16 years old Syuzanna Sargsyan’s case can be resumed and sent to double investigation. The reason is the newly discovered circumstance, presented by the European Court’s judgment.

As Iravaban.net informed before, on 31 March the European Court of Human Rights accepted three verdicts against Armenia and one of them was “Nalbandyan against Armenia” case.

According to the materials, in 2004 spouses Bagrat and Narine Nalbandyan and their daughter Arevik Nalbandyan were arrested by Gegharkuniq marz police department with the suspicions of 16-year-old Syuazanna’s murder. During the arrest violence was used to extort confessions. The court convicted Bagrat Nalbandyan to 9 years’ sentence, Narine Nalbandyan to 14 years’ sentence and towards their daughter Arevik Nalbandyan criminal prosecution was suspended.

The European Court mentions that the Nalbandyans’ right to a fair trial, the rights of access to judicial protection was violated and inhumane treatment was shown towards them. As compensation Armenia should pay 10 thousand Euros to Bagrat Nalbandyan, 27 thousand Euros to Narine Nalbandyan and 25 thousand to Arevik Nalbandyan. After the European Court’s judgment Nalbandyan’s advocate Seda Safaryan received a call from the murdered girl’s father who threatened and cursed her. The advocate said there was no response from the law enforcement agencies yet. But the president of the Chamber of Advocates Ara Zohrabyan, and the Office of Human Rights Defender informed they were ready to support the advocate.
