Advocate Anahit Yesayan is not sure the Institute of Jurors will function efficiently in Armenia. In her opinion, the mentality of our society may impede the efficient implementation of this institution.
“We have a stereotype in our mentality due to which a person sitting in the dock becomes an object of compassion. This fact may impede in this case” – the advocate said.
She noted that she had been in USA and seen that this institute functions very efficiently there. She also said that the small number of our population is one of the reasons for the inefficient functioning of this institute.
Mrs. Yesayan also said that she is for the tentative introduction of the institute because there is a problem of beliefs at the moment. It is difficult to evaluate definitely things that do not exist. Mrs. Yesayan thinks that there will not be positive changes by the introduction of the institution of Jurors. “Many changes occurred recently. Different tests were initiated. The practice shows, which of them is more efficient,”-concluded the lawyer.
